BMW Motorrad is famous for producing bikes that are capable of going around the world and are most popular amongst the adventure riders. After launching the R1200GS in India BMW is all set to launch its younger sibling the F800GS which is also a very capable bike.

Tagged by the legendary GS emblem F800 is a one hell of an all terrain capable motorcycle. Powered by a 800cc Parallel Twin motor that produces 85bhp with a maximum torque of 83Nm and that too when it weighs less than 200kg. Its sports a a space frame which is not only has a high level of torsional stiffness but also allows room for lots of other highlights such as a large airbox and fuel tank under the seat. Fitted at the front with a 21-inch wheel which provides constant directional stability even over off-road stretches, at the rear with a full 17-inch wheel for the appropriate propulsion power – both naturally with robust spokes. The dual disc at the front and the single disc at the rear make for a breathtaking braking performance, with further safety enhancement available from the optional ABS. The chassis is adapted to the off-road concept and has generous spring travel which can cope with the odd jump. With a fuel capacity of 16liters and a pretty decent mileage has a very good range and becomes a brilliant all terrain tool. If you want all the capabilities of the GS in a lighter, tighter, totally aggressive package, the destined-to-be-a-classic F 800 GS is your ride.


BMW plans to launch this bike in the last quarter of 2012 and with the only competition from the Triumph Tiger800XC this bike doesn’t seem to face much competition. Expected to be priced under a range of 12-14lakh INR the bike will surely do well in the Indian market. The only thing BMW needs to make sure is that they keep the pricing in check with the Triumph Tiger.
